33 Week Bumpdate!

How far along: 33 weeks!

Gender: Unknown, but in all truth, I would be happy with either!

Weight gain: 24lbs! Also, according to all these pregnancy apps, the baby is 4-5 lbs at this point?! HOW?!

Maternity clothes: Yes’m. Although, since we are off on Christmas holidays I have been mostly lounging in pajama bottoms and hubs huge hockey t-shirts because comfort over fashion at this point.

Rings on or off: What rings? My wedding bands have been retired, but I picked up a few of these enso rings, which are made out of silicone and have some stretch to them. I still feel like my giant fingers are still pretty darn swollen, so I only use these when I have to/feel like it! My joints have also started feeling super stiff when I wake up in the morning and sometimes in the evening; it’s such a terrible feeling.

Belly button in or out: Uhhh, I’d say my belly button has become more of a pancake. It is on the verge of being neither in nor out, but just FLAT.

Sleep: Still getting fabulous amounts of sleep and extremely thankful for it! I’ve definitely enjoyed these days off though.

Best moment this week: Celebrating Christmas of course! Hanging with our families and taking in what was our last Christmas as just a married couple.

Miss anything: STILL beer … and kombucha … and Toblerone bars. And let’s just say that Toblerone bars are definitely hard to come by only a few days before Christmas and definitely hard to find after Christmas. I’m thankful for my Dad and hubs who managed to find some … and to hubs’ students who also contributed to the Toblerone stash! I also miss not having to go to the washroom every two minutes!

Movement: We are head down folks as confirmed today! Midwife couldn’t tell which was baby’s butt or head so she brought out the handy dandy hand-held ultrasound machine (who knew those were a thing! technology these days I tell ya!) and BOOM we got a nice beautiful view of a head … right where it should be. Which is also scary AF.

Cravings: French toast. I was so excited to have french toast when we went out for breakfast a few days ago. But I’m pretty darn sure it was bread soaked in beaten eggs. Disappointing. So I’ve made it my mission to make SO. MUCH. FRENCH. TOAST. before I go back to work!

Looking forward to: Definitely looking forward to being home and sleeping in my own bed after a few days away. The month of January just seems to be so open and relaxing for us at last! We have a few finishing touches to add to the nursery. I’m kind of excited to get back to my class and spending some time with them before I have to go off on mat leave!

31 + 32 Week Bumpdates!

You guys. I am sucking horribly at these bumpdates! It sure is difficult staying on top of life with the chaos of the holidays that’s for sure! And my sweet little primary class was definitely no help in keeping me on track. So, I am skipping the 31 week bumpdate and will just do 32 weeks (I’m assuming they would both be very similar anyways as the weeks just keep melting into each other!).

How far along: 32 weeks!

Gender: Unknown … the general consensus at this point is a boy … I am not convinced.

Weight gain: I would guess somewhere around 23lbs. I forgot to weigh myself at my last appointment, but there is another one coming up soon!

Maternity clothes: are everything. Hopefully I will be getting some more at Christmas!

Rings on or off: They are off. The sausage fingers have become an actual thing these days and oh my goodness my fingers are just so stiff and sore, especially in the morning when I guess they haven’t moved much. It’s a terrible feeling. I knew that the swelling might be a thing, but definitely wasn’t ready for the stiffness/soreness.

Belly button in or out: Innie … on its way into an outtie I think. Or a nothing.

Sleep: Pretty good. I can’t wait to catch up on all my sleep during the holidays! Hopefully my body (and this tiny human) let me sleep in some!

Best moment this week: Well, I have discovered through conversations and some reading that the 1 hr GTT is definitely not accurate. Anyways, I did the two hour one and everything was fiiiiiine! So give me all the delicious Christmas treats and cookies and chocolate and gingerbread.

Worst moment this week: Turns out my blood is going to have to be monitored every few weeks. Which means more needles for this Mama. Sigh.

Miss anything: Beer. Again. Especially with the holidays creeping up, I know there will be beer and wine everywhere!

Movement: Yup! This little bubs is moving around lots and it is the most amazing (and kind of strange) thing I’ve ever seen and felt.

Cravings: Cinnamon rolls. I think I have to make some over the holidays!

Looking forward to: TWO WEEKS OFF. Except I am told that two weeks off and then going back to work after having the chance to relax and sleep is actually even more exhausting. Celebrating our last Christmas together as just a couple (and our puppa!), spending time with our families. I’m super excited at the fact that Christmas falls early this year so we have a whole week after Christmas/New Years to just do nothing. Okay, we probably will do SOME things. Like wash/put away baby clothes and start packing hospital bags. WHAT.

Top 5 Holiday Baking Recipes

Well friends, the holidays are officially upon us! I am certain that I have all my Christmas shopping done (and if for some reason I done, I’m sorry for whoever I’ve missed because I am NOT going out again!). Today will be spent wrapping gifts, watching endless Christmas movies and finishing up some holiday baking!

I’ve compiled a list of my top 5 holiday treats! I wasn’t as adventurous as I have been in previous years, so I only made a few of these this year, and opted for the easier ones (but they are equally delicious!).

  1. Puppy Chow (aka Muddy Buddies): for some reason, I have always found myself trying to find the perfect recipe for Puppy Chow all over Pinterest. That is until I realized that the recipe is INSIDE the Chex Mix box. So this year I cut it out and shoved it into my recipe book!
  2. Chocolate Crinkle Cookies: these are basically brownies in cookie form and are absolutely delicious! They are super quick and easy to make and just look so beautiful when they are done!
  3. Ginger Molasses Cookies: I stumbled upon this recipe earlier this week and OH MY GOSH they are literally the best ginger cookies I have EVER made! I was initially looking for a good gingerbread recipe (if anyone has one, send it my way please!), but these will most definitely do for this year!
  4. Mincemeat Pies: I don’t have a recipe for mincemeat because in all truth, I have never made mincemeat filling from scratch. Perhaps I will attempt it at some Christmas in the future. For now, I stick with the President’s Choice Mincemeat filling and my Grandma’s good ole dough recipe! These are the only dried fruit treats that I really enjoy during the holidays (no fruitcake for me thanks!) Plum pudding comes in second, but I usually only get that AFTER Christmas (you know, when everything Christmas goes on sale!)
  5. Church Windows: apparently THESE cookies are super old school, as in people remember their Grandma whipping these up during the holidays! I discovered these last year while shopping downtown. Card’s Bakery in Kingston had some, I tried it and it was magical! These cookies are no bake, and the only part I found to be difficult was rolling them up in the plastic wrap! I left out the walnuts because nuts just don’t belong in desserts!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas filled with delicious food, and surrounded by family!

30 Week Bumpdate!

How far along: 30 weeks!

Gender: Unknown

Weight gain: Officially 21lbs!

Maternity clothes: All day, every day.  I put on one of my mat shirts for work the other day and man did I just feel superbly LARGE. Still haven’t bought anything else I said I would buy since the hoodie, but I wouldn’t mind a few more comfy pieces to wear once baby gets here. I suppose I should also start looking into investing in decent nursing bras and tanks. So if anyone has any recommendations on either, I would most definitely appreciate it!

Rings on or off: They are off. I refused to attempt to shove them on. I don’t think my fingers look THAT swollen, but they have been a bit of a struggled to get on and off so I’ll just go without. MY FINGER FEELS SO NAKED.

Belly button in or out: In but shallow AF.

Sleep: Sleep has been generally good. I’ve had a few strange nights where I just wake up, go to the washroom and BOOM I can only just lay there and stare into the dark for an hour or so. Then I manage to get back to sleep. I’m hoping that nights like this just stay away, but only time will tell I suppose! Still trying to get to sleep earlier that’s for sure!

Best moment this week: My midwife appointment as always! I really didn’t mind the Glucose Tolerance Test. The drink definitely tasted similar to the McDonald’s Orange Drink and they give you five minutes to drink it, which I though was a ton of time. Turns out it isn’t and I found myself chugging back the last bit, which burned just a little and left an unpleasant aftertaste.
We also took our prenatal/childbirth classes over the weekend and I feel a little more prepared and informed as to what to expect. I’ll continue doing some reading though. Current reads include Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth for myself and The Birth Partner for hubs (although I think I will be reading this book too!).

Worst moment this week: Discovering that my GTT levels were just a little too high. Which means I have to do the 2 hour GTT, which includes THREE blood draws. I am less than fond of getting blood taken. So we’ll see how that goes.

Miss anything: The raw fish kind of sushi!

Movement: Very distinct movement this week! Rolls and turns, kicks and punches. Baby is still just chilling out and laying whichever way he/she feels comfortable for now. The absolute weirdest feeling is when I find myself resting my arm or hand on my belly and can literally FEEL an arm or leg just run itself across my own arm or hand. I’ve also discovered that I can figure out whereabouts baby is sitting, again only sometimes because it’s only a super strange feeling, but I’m sure I can feel baby’s head or body if I’m adventurous enough and he/she’s in the right place.

Cravings: Poutine. Gingerbread cookies.

Looking forward to: Going to see the newest Star Wars movie this weekend! Although it comes out today, hubs was thinking ahead when he purchased tickets two months ago and got an early showing on Friday evening because sleep for a pregnant lady trumps everything (bonus points for him!).
A weekend to ourselves (aka a weekend of doing absolutely nothing!)! I’m sure we’ll have to do some last minute Christmas shopping for people though. But no other commitments!
The last week of school before we are off for Christmas holidays!

28 + 29 Week Bumpdates!

First off, I know I said that being behind and lack of bump photos wouldn’t happen any more but as life would have it, I was offered a full-time teaching position for the time being and am now a teacher to 19 wonderful (but EXHAUSTING) Grade 2 students which have consumed all my free time and my energy. So 28 and 29 week bumpdates are lacking in the bump aspect. 😦 But, they do not lack in any other aspects, so without further adieu … here we go!
I have absolutely NO IDEA how I’ve made it to the THIRD TRIMESTER but here I am! I cannot even believe that this pregnancy journey is 2/3 complete and before we know it, we will be holding and cuddling our tiny human.
How far along: 29 weeks!
Gender: Unknown!
Weight gain: I’d say ~20lbs at this point … I shall find out this week!
Maternity clothes: Still working on investing in some more pieces. One of my current faves is this top from GAP (and the short-sleeved version). I only have black at the moment, but I’m thinking I need a few more colours. The material is SO soft and feels wonderful.
Stretch marks: Yup.
Rings on or off: My fear of not being able to take them off has won and for the most part, all rings are off. I am actually so sad about this.
Belly button in or out: In and Shallow AF.
Sleep: Still pretty decent … I’ve taken to barricading myself into my bed with my Snoogle, a pillow underneath the Snoogle and another pillow under my belly. SO I BASICALLY CAN’T GO ANYWHERE. But sometimes I wake up and still end up half on my back. Need to barricade myself a little tighter I think. And work on going to sleep earlier in the evening because little kids just make me SO TIRED.
Best moment this week: Exploring all the local makers at the Craft Fair this past weekend, AND hanging out with my family on Sunday afternoon. So much good food and I just LOVE hanging out with my cousins and Grandparents. My Grandma is legit SO EXCITED to become a Great Grandma!
Miss anything: B E E R. Smelling it only works for so long. I definitely am missing going out Friday evenings with the hubs for a beer at a local bar/pub.
Movement: This baby is literally everywhere in my belly! He/she’s been hanging out pretty low usually, but I’ve felt some movement up a little higher lately, which definitely feels super strange!
Cravings: Another week of not much of craving anything … although I did want fish and chips on Friday, so we went out for dinner and had some and hooooly it was so delicious and definitely hit the spot!
Looking forward to: My midwife appointment this week and hearing baby’s heartbeat once again! Although I do have to do my Glucose Tolerance Test – which I have heard is not the most pleasant thing … but some people have said it tastes like that McDonald’s Orange Drink they used to have. YOU GUYS I LOVED THAT DRINK AS A KID. This test can’t be that awful can it?
We are also signed up for a crash prenatal course (aka a weekend of learning all things about childbirth). I am excited, but also super nervous to learn about things!

annnnd here’s 28 weeks!

How far along: 28 weeks!
Gender: Unknown, and I think most people guessed girl at my shower.
Weight gain: I’m guessing 20lbs now.
Maternity clothes: YUP. Luckily I picked up that hoodie I had my eye on on the weekend. I could probably go for a few more winter pieces … and maybe another pair of pajama bottoms. Although hubs’ boxers and oversized t-shirts have been doing a fine job these days in terms of comfort.
Stretch marks: Yes … there are a few. I don’t want to talk about them because they annoy me. 😉
Rings on or off: Some days they are on, some days they are off. I have found that my engagement ring fits a little bit looser than my band, so I’ve just been wearing that on days when I feel like wearing a ring!
Belly button in or out: It’s in. It’s shallow. I don’t think it’s coming out anytime soon though!
Sleep: Still quite good! Haven’t been taking any naps, but I sleep through the night mostly and wake up feeling excellent!
Best moment this week: Spending a Sunday afternoon being surrounded by family and close friends at our second baby shower! Although they were a little early, I’m actually quite glad that both our showers have happened. The chaos of the holidays is definitely upon us and although we have been blessed with beautiful weather the past few weeks, I have a funny feeling it won’t last very long now.
Worst moment this week: I wouldn’t say it was the WORST moment, but I would not advise any preggo mamas out there to hit up a concert and STAND for 2+hrs. The music was fabulous, but my back was definitely NOT happy after that.
Miss anything: Weekends of doing nothing! I feel like all our weekends have been so booked up that we haven’t had a chance to relax or chill and work on our nursery. If I can remember … one is coming up so so soon!
Movement: This kid is probably going to take up some sort of sport. I am extremely thankful at the fact that he/she knows when to chill out and not move as much … like when I’m sleeping … otherwise we’re feeling all the moves!
Cravings: Nothing this week.
Looking forward to: The holiday celebrations officially start next weekend when we head off to Toronto to celebrate Christmas with my Mom’s side of the family! Also, very much so looking forward to immersing myself in some wonderful locally made goodies at the Fat Goose Craft Fair this weekend!

27 Week Bumpdate!

How far along: 27 weeks!

Gender: Unknown, looking forward to seeing what guesses are this weekend!

Weight gain: I would say 17+lbs at this point!

Maternity clothes: I think I still have to invest in a few more tops/sweaters and pants and then I should be good to go. Thanks to Instagram, this hoodie was suggested to me. Now it’s just a matter of getting to the store and buying it!

Stretch marks: They have made their presence known!

Rings on or off: I have been wearing them less and less these days. They DO still go on, but I get super nervous at the end of the day. Do I just ditch them altogether at this point,or sweat it out? I’m a little afraid of them getting STUCK.

Belly button in or out: Still in, but shalloooow.

Sleep: Good, but I have been finding that by the evening I am just EXHAUSTED. And when I get into bed I am OUT. Unfortunately, I still can’t sleep past 7:30am ON WEEKENDS!?

Best moment this week: Organizing all of the wonderful gifts we got for baby into his/her nursery. Missing a few important pieces of furniture to get it ALL set up, but hopefully (weather permitting) we will be able to get them this weekend! AND taking a little trip over the border to pick up some Christmas presents and wander aimlessly around everyone’s favourite happy place … TARGET.

Worst moment this week: Ugh, we had to cancel our sweet little day trip to Le Nordik Spa over the weekend because of weather … which means this Mama is in need of a local pre-natal massage. Any recommendations YGK friends?!

Miss anything: Sleeping on my back. That’s all I want to do.

Movement: Movements G A L O R E. And I can feel them all the time; standing, sitting, walking, driving, laying down! It seems to still be just little jabs/kicks/punches here and there but I -think- I’ve started to feel rolling … like the baby is moving but cannot be felt on the outside … just sort of twirling around in there. ANYWAYS.

Cravings: Clementines and all things cinnamon and sugar. Luckily I found a wicked and relatively healthy oatmeal recipe that involves cinnamon and sugar and I have been eating it for breakfast when I have time.

Looking forward to: Our busy weekend ahead! A concert, some (hopefully Christmas) shopping, picking out some final pieces of furniture and details for Baby L’s nursery and my second baby shower that is being thrown by my side of the family! SO SO SO excited to see all my friends and family members this weekend!

My Baby Bucket List!

Yes, I know … this photo is so last year!

As the cooler days turn into cold days and Christmas trees and lights start popping up in neighbour’s front windows, I’ve realized that the weeks we spend as a couple are dwindling down (ALMOST into single digit weeks guys!), and there is so much that I still want to do before this sweet baby gets here. And yes, I totally understand that most of these things can be done with a baby, but I want to savour the last few months as just a married couple by carrying on some of the traditions we have created and doing the things we love to do together.

I started compiling a bucket list way back in the summer, and have slowly added to it as the weeks go on and now I think it’s ready to share!

  1. Go apple picking – Spring Meadow Orchards is our go-to each Fall, their apple cider donuts are the BOMB.com
  2. Visit Pumpkinferno at Upper Canada Village
  3. Carve pumpkins for Halloween!
  4. Experience/witness Queen’s University Homecoming. Walk down Aberdeen St. very likely for the last time.
  5. Go on a walk/hike to enjoy the cooler weather (or snow at this rate!)
  6. Take in a Kingston Frontenacs game (and get nachos of course!)
  7. Decorate for CHRISTMAS!
  8. Spend a day at the spa!
  9. Go to the movies (and watch something other than the new Star Wars because if you know me, those tickets have been purchased for WEEKS!)
  10. Go on all the coffee dates we can possibly have at all our favourite coffee shops.
  11. Wander aimlessly through our favourite shops – especially Michael’s and Home Sense, because soon it will be just a little bit more challenging/time consuming/I probably will just want to get in and out as fast as I can with a darling baby in tow.
  12. Hit up some local craft and vendor Christmas shows – because they are totally my jam and I love support small/local shops (but more on that later!)
  13. Stay at home in pajamas/curled up in bed all day … even better during a snowstorm!
  14. Go OUT for breakfast or dinner at least a few times before February rolls around.
  15. Give so much love and time to our sweet little dog; his life is about to experience a huge change.

Any other suggestions of things to add to my baby bucket list? Would love for you to share!
